Daytona...Here we come !!!!
Didn't even get wet...

Friday morning, 11 March, 2005, 9:00 AM, six members of the Pee Dee Chapter and a potential member from North Carolina left the Exxon station on the Timmonsville Hwy and headed out to what was to be a great and memorable event...Bike Week 2005. I had camped for a night at Colleton State Park and met the group at a rest area on the other side of Walterboro, South Carolina. The weather was clear, there was a little chill in the air, camping gear was strapped on the motorcycles, excitement was in the air....We chatted for a few minutes and then were off to Daytona. We had not made reservations for any campgrounds, however, I had called Bulow Campground in Flagler Beach, Florida and they informed me that there would be space available so that's where we headed. The farther South we rode the more clothing we shed...the weather is perfect and we are champing at the bits to get to Bulow, get set up and set out to explore what Bike Week had to offer. It was about a seven hour ride, not counting rest/gas stops, to Bulow Campground. We arrived at the campground just before dark, got the tents set up, met some of our neighbors...before we could get the tents set up people were giving us beverages. Not kidding, one man gave us almost a case of beer before we got the tents set up. Some of the group went to check out the Iron Horse Saloon while the rest of us went to a really nice restaurant in Flagler Beach. Around midnight we all turned in with plans made for Saturday at the Beach.

Saturday Morning started with a trip to Mickey D's for breakfast. then the day began. I could go into detail about the day, however, I think you can pretty much imagine what went on at the different venues. We all started at the White Eagle Bar, from there the Iron Horse Saloon, then across town to Port Orange and the Last Resort Bar then back to the White Eagle to end the day. The day started at around 9:00 AM and we got back to the campground at around 2:00 AM Sunday morning....now if that ain't party'n, I don't know what party'n is !!!

Sunday morning came real early after a long day and night of riding and checking out all of happening's at and around Daytona. If spending a weekend with people you want to be with, riding 900 + miles with them, partying with them, camping, eating, drinking, fraternizing, etc. ain't having fun I don't know what fun is !!! It was a beautiful weekend !!!... but it was time to head back to Florence and work...for those of us who aren't retired ;-). The group decided to ride home separately as part of us wanted to ride straight home, others wanted to ride (Hwy A1A) along the ocean for a while before heading home, and me..well I went to Stephen C. Foster State Park in Georgia and spent the night before heading home on Monday. That's the real beauty of independence isn't it...That's what we're all about.

We are already making plans for next year. We have, tentatively, decided to stay at Bulow, (Phone #: 800-274-7314 or 800-782-8569), again next year. We are going to try to get site 151 again. It has electricity, water, good neighbors, and plenty of room for our group. We invite all members and their guest to join us. If you don't like to tent camp there are camper cabins available, however, If you are planning on staying in a camping cabin I suggest that you make reservations as soon as possible, If camping or staying in camper cabins don't appeal, don't let that stop you from going with us..make reservations at a motel and we can all meet at a predetermined place each day..Just plan on coming, you won't regret it. This will be a topic that will, no doubt, be discussed at future meetings. In the meantime go the links section of our web page to find out when the Daytona Bike Week  will take place, look at the dates for the last weekend starting on the last Friday,..book your camper cabin or plan on camping with us and join the fun.

Thanks for the ride......Kirk            Click here for pictures
